Good Heart in a Tough World
Q ends life to survive it. Initializing is how Q survives. For Q everything must shut down and then be re-started.
It was becoming all to clear to this Captain that whatever was wrong electrically was beyond my understanding to correct. The thud coming into Venice inlet, the electrical short, and maybe it was time to bottom paint led to the decision to haul our sloop. I decided to head to Sarasota to do the work on the hard. When you travel and live aboard you do not want to stop moving and enjoying the life on the water. However, there are times when you have to stop and take care of some things.
My mind re-drifted back to Q. Q often defrags a good, but fragmented heart to re-start. To survive Q stops, ends the life that is causing the problem, and re-starts anew. Some parts of the previous life are re-arranged and placed into areas of cope, hope, and new direction. Initializing assigns a starting value or re-formats what needs to be sorted out to continue according to what is to be accomplished. Q initializes life for a good heart in a tough world. It is about survival. One conversation went something like...
"I had to quit."
"Quit what?"
"My job. It was too hard."
"What part was too hard?" I had to ask because Q is smart and a hard, industrious worker.
"My boss. My boss makes me feel worthless and says such demeaning things."
So, what are you going to do for work?"
"Oh, I'm going back in tomorrow. I just had to quit today."
For Q this was not an afternoon off to chill out. For Q this was ending a job and starting a new one the next day, except that it would be back at the same place, with the same work, and the same boss. During the defrag to put things in order to continue on, Q needed to shut down and re-arrange the parts of life that fragmented in order to view going back to the same place, with the same work, and the same boss, as a new job.
"What will change by tomorrow?" I asked.
"Life. My life. That life."
Q needed to take the three parts of life and put them back to one life again. On the water Q escapes to save a good hearted person. It seems tragic, but The Kid has a view of Q that seems to explain in a not so tragic manner what happens on the water.
"On the water Q can getaway to leave behind the hard to deal with parts of life instead of becoming hardened by them."
It seems to work. The re-start re-charges Q. The water takes Q away to places and people that makes Q's life enjoyable and at times, bearable.
"I love being on the water."
Analysts, psychologists, psychiatrists, and the like, would take apart Q, and all like Q, to assemble together the parts from what they view as a disorder into a more normal approach to life and how to cope with it.
Q's summary of, "I love being on the water", says it all. On the water, on an island, aboard a boat preserves a good heart and a good hearted person. Q does this, not to put together pieces of what is not working, but instead uses this approach to take the pieces that are not making life enjoyable or pleasant and discards them and re-starts.
It will be days with our sloop on the hard. Out of the water may or may not find the problems or fix them, but its necessary and good use of the time out will be productive. We will go to Sarasota. We will look Q up when we get in town.
